Abstract

The article is trying to capture missi dominici as control body in local government in Frankish empire in the late eight and the early ninth century, especially during the government of Charlemagne. Inevitable part of the article are capitularies as a source of law, on which we can bring near the existence, functions, powers and competence of the office of missi dominici. The important fact foregrounding specific position in the area of control in local governement in the empire is possibility of aplication of complaint on missi dominici in cases concerning illegal and wrong activity of local government bodies and offices. Important is also parallel with the modern office of ombudsman.
