At The end of World War I. were formed the conditions for the realization of long-standing efforts to Czech and Slovak nation for independence from Austria – Hungary, which resulted in the establishment of an independent Czechoslovak Republic. The article deals with documents, Modus Vivendi, in terms of its creation, circumstances and events that led to it. In newly formed state was necessary to modify several areas of its operations, within the State itself as well as internationally. Czechoslovakia for cooperation is consequent diplomatic relations with other states and other international bodies. An important event was the establishment of diplomatic relations with the Holy See and the Church’s relationship adjustment in the new country. Since 1918, this problem has been solved in part to the late twenties of the twentieth century and the Agreement between the Czechoslovak Republic and the Holy See from 1928, but not the classic form of a concordat by international agreement, but the conclusion of legally separate documents MODUS VIVENDI fashion.
