Review Process

Upon receiving a manuscript, the editorial board first assesses whether it meets the thematic focus and the content and formal standards of the journal; if the manuscript does not meet these requirements, the editorial board reserves the right to reject it. After the editorial board's initial review, the manuscript is forwarded to the editorial council, which recommends two reviewers. The review process is double-blind, with reviewers evaluating the originality, scientific quality, and contribution of the manuscript to the development of the field. After receiving the review reports and the editorial council's decision, the authors are informed about the outcome, which may result in the acceptance, rejection, or request for revision of the manuscript. The editorial board may also decide to include the manuscript in one of the upcoming issues of the journal.

Content and Formal Requirements for Manuscripts

The editorial board accepts manuscripts in Slovak, Czech, and English, typically ranging from 27,000 to 72,000 characters (15 – 40 standard pages) including footnotes and spaces, while reviews generally range from 7,200 to 18,000 characters (4 – 10 standard pages). Authors must submit manuscripts exclusively in MS Word format (.doc or .docx) with the following formatting: font: Times New Roman, size 12, line spacing: 1.5, margins: 2.5 cm. The manuscript should not include any other formatting. References to sources and literature must be listed in footnotes using the MS Word "Insert Footnote" feature under the "References" tab (font: Times New Roman, size 10, single line spacing).

Structure

  1. Title of the contribution

  2. Author’s full name (without titles)

  3. Abstract and keywords (in English)

  4. Main text of the study

  5. Author's contact information (full name with all titles, email, institution name and address, or residential address including street, ZIP code, city, country. If available, the author should also include identifiers such as ORCID, SCOPUS, WOS)

  6. List of sources and literature

If the study results from a specific project, the author should include the project number, title, and the institution where the project was conducted in the first footnote.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.

Studies

Studies are original and authentic scientific works, generally ranging from 15 to 40 standard pages (27,000–72,000 characters including footnotes and spaces), prepared using scientific methods of legal science and related disciplines. They represent the results of the author's own scientific work.

Materials

Materials are contributions in which authors publish analyses of specific sets of sources, scholarly translations of sources, significant court decisions from domestic, foreign, and international institutions, as well as archival materials. These contributions are of a scientific standard, and compared to scientific studies, they are rather case-based examinations of selected issues in legal science.

Discussions

Discussions are direct responses to published scientific and scholarly works, as well as to current scientific issues in legal science.

Reviews

Reviews are critical evaluations of published works, typically monographs, with a usual length of 7,200 to 18,000 characters (approximately 4 to 10 standard pages). Ideally, a work should be reviewed within two years of its publication. Reviews may also include scholarly apparatus, such as footnotes.

Other

In this section, authors contribute reports from conferences, scientific events, annotations, and other brief contributions.
